summary

Music Videos summary

The music videos that we individually analysed have a lot in common with each other, this is because they all are within the same genre therefore the videos have used the typical codes and conventions for the genre of “Blue Eyed Soul” so that the audience can easily identify the genre.

The elements that all the music videos had in common were the gender of the artist, within all of our music videos the artists were female, this fits well with the genre because it is a feminine genre which it is female dominated and makes it easy for the target audience (teenage girls) to connect with the artist.

Most of the music videos have used a male in the video, this is to help tell a story within the video and therefore helps the audience to relate to the story that is being told in the music video and also attracts the target audience because females would obviously like to see males within a video.

Another element that the music videos we looked at have in common are the colours used, the colours are feminine colours, this would attract the target audience and help them to identify the gender of the artist. The colours that are commonly used also connote nature which fits well with the genre of the videos and gives the audience an idea of the typically things that are associated with the genre “Blue Eyed Soul”.
Representation within Music Videos

The gender of the artist is clearly represented by the colours that are used, there are a lot of pinks, creams and whites used these colours connote femininity and innocence, these colours make it easy for the audience to identify the female artist and also gives the audience an idea of the artists personality therefore making the audience feel as though they know the artist.

The gender of the artist is also represented through the costume that the artists have been put in, the clothes are very feminine and use bright colours which would help the audience to relate with the artist, the clothes are also short or tight fitting, this connotes that the artists are happy within their bodies and also allows the audience to relate to them.

The youth of the artists have been represented by their clothing, the clothes are fashionable and connote that they are young and into fashion which would make the audience look to the artist for fashion ideas. This is also represented by the mannerisms of the artists, they all move in a flirtatious way connoting that they are youthful and playful.

Target Audience of music videos

The music videos appeal to the target audience because they have used males in the video, this would attract the target audience because they would be able to feel attracted to the male.
The narrative story within some of our music videos would attract the target audience because they would be able to relate to the narrative story and they would be able to connect with the artists.
The colours would attract the target audience because they are feminine.

Technical codes within music videos

The music videos use a lot of close-up camera shots within the music videos, this allows the audience to see the facial expressions of the characters within the video which helps the audience to understand the narrative that is being told in the videos.
The edits that have been used within the music videos are straight cut edits this helps create realism within the music videos and helps to tell the story.

Narrative Theory within music videos

The music videos usually use a linear narrative this is so that the audience can follow one characters view of what is going on, this therefore makes it easy for the audience to follow the narrative story that is being told.
The music videos also use Propps narrative theory, the villain is usually the male because he has done something wrong within the narrative and the hero is usually the artist because they get through the bad situation, this attracts the audience because the audience will be able to identify the different characters easily.


Audience use of music videos

The audience would use these music videos for personal identity, because they would see themselves in the artists and the situation the artists are in within the video.
The target audience would also use the music videos for diversion because the music will help them to forget what is going on within their lives.

CD covers

All of our CD covers use the same techniques to create an enigma, they usually have the artist with a facial expression that would make the audience question why the artist is feeling that way and make them wonder what is happening in the artists life.
Also the body language creates an enigma of why the artist is feeling like that.

Font and colours etc on CD covers

All the CD covers use typical font for the genre, the style of font was a style like handwriting this connotes that it was written personally by the artist and would appeal to the audience because it would feel personal to them.
The colours used were light and connote femininity which fit well with the genre of the CD covers and fit well with the gender of the artists.

Representation on CD covers

The gender was represented through the colours used because they were feminine colours also the gender was represented through the artist and their make-up and costume.
